Created for the pleasure of Catherine de' Medici in the 16th century and redesigned by the legendary André Le Nôtre for Louis XIV, this "playground of kings" is the ultimate blueprint of the French Formal Garden (Jardin à la française).
Today, it has evolved into a world-class open-air sculpture museum, where centuries-old marble statues share the lawn with cutting-edge contemporary installations.
